Background

A motorsport equipment developer needed a critical steering hub adapter that was both extremely lightweight and strong enough to handle the rigors of competitive racing.

 

The design was complex, requiring tight tolerances on interfacing features and a perfect aesthetic finish to match their high-end brand image.

How Xmake Supports the Development of High-Performance Steering Hubs

We partnered closely with the client through 3 iterative prototyping phases. Utilizing a combination of CNC turning for the primary contours, wire EDM for creating precise keyways and splines without stress, and CNC milling for intricate mounting holes, we refined the design from 6061 T6 aluminum to meet all functional requirements.

For the final production run of 500 units, we not only delivered on the precision but also added value through a durable and sleek black anodizing finish. This surface treatment enhances corrosion resistance and provides a premium, scratch-resistant black appearance that perfectly complements the client’s steering wheels.
